POC – Interbike 2011

The Swedish Protection Company had a few new additions to their already prodigious line of products, which include helmets, eye wear, armor and apparel.

The Trabec Race Mips adds the Mips technology to their Trabec Race cross country helmet, which is accomplished by adding a thin elastomer dampened inner structure (yellow in the photo). The helmet extends down the back of the neck, and it uses Aramid combined with EPS foam for protection. The outer polycarbonate shell has optimized sections that don’t have seams in the most vulnerable areas, and its bonded to the reinforced core, for strength and lightweight. The Mips system itself, allows the helmet to rotate a small amount on an impact, to take away some of the rotational damage that occurs with the head impacts the ground, especially at higher speeds, helping to alleviate that cork screwing effect to the head, neck and body.

They updated their armor and are using the new VPD 2.0 inserts in the Knee pads, which now have a long and normal version. They were are able to do a 3D mold of this visco-elastic polyurethane foam soft pad, so it’s lighter, fits better, offers greater protection and tear resistance, and should remain soft in colder temperatures. The VPD 2.0 Long Knee pad and VPD 2.0 Knee pad new design and inserts, make them lighter, with great heat management and comfort, excellent protection and coverage, and come in S, M, L sizes. They use a Kevlar material for robustness, durability and comfort, and a stretchy back sleeve, and they have a contoured shape for better fit, and the VPD insert has perforations for ventilation. In addition, they have the trick Spine VPD 2.0 Jacket and HIP VPD 2.0 Shorts, which should be great for the Freeride and Downhill rider.

They had their sunglasses line on display, which use the NXT lenses, which have excellent optical qualities and superb protection. The Do, Am, Did and Was lines are pretty cool looking, with lots of style and each of the models come in a slew of colors.
