Camelbak KUDU

For 2015, Camelbak
is releasing the new KUDU series of hydration packs that incorporates a
removable back protector.  The pack comes in two sizes, a 12-liter
version for $200 and an 18-liter for $225, and they should be available
in January. The KUDU or Kinetic Ultimate Damping Unit comes with their
3-liter Antidote reservoir, along with a slew of useful features and
pockets to make for a highly functional hydration pack.

The
3-layered back protector is EN 1621-2 certified and can withstand
multiple impacts without degradation. The protector is flexible and
lightweight and provides additional safety, and it can be easily removed
to create a normal pack design.

The
KUDU has a rear hydration and back protector compartment and one large
main compartment with several slots and a zippered pocket. It has a
fleece-lined upper pocket, a slot and a zippered pocket on the hip belt,
and an outer large sleeve that can hold a full-faced or normal helmet.

The
suspension uses two sternum straps and a wide waist belt that
incorporates a large triangular attachment point to the main pack to
carry and stabilize the weight. It has two straps on the bottom to
attach armor and four side compression straps, and comes with an
integrated pullover rain cover.

The pack comes with a nice roll-up tool pouch that inserts into a sleeve in the main compartment so that can be easily located.

Camelbak Forge – Tested

The new Forge
travel mug utilizes a double-walled and vacuum-insulated steel vessel
with a unique self-sealing cap. It comes in  16 ounces (MSRP $30) and 12
ounces (MSRP $29) versions and multiple color options. The
well-insulated vessel keeps fluids piping hot for hours, and after my
usage today I can vouch for how long it keeps things toasty warm. I
don’t think I can recall many mugs that would keep something hot for up
to four hours and never miss a beat.

The cap didn’t spill anything
during use, outside of some occasional mini drops sitting in the very
top. An easy one finger trigger opens the spout, and you can then take a
sip of tea or coffee, and it reseals once it’s let go. If you want to
cool the contents off or want a quicker and easier drinking, you can
push the gray button towards the handle to leave a slight gap open. Just
pull the trigger finger again to return the cap to a sealed mode. You
can easily wash the cap in the dishwasher, just remove the cap, pull the
trigger, and it release the plunger for complete cleaning.

  • Self-sealing cap eliminates spills and is easy to open and close with one hand for sipping while you’re on the go
  • Impact-resistant construction stands up to frequent use
  • Use the loop in the cap to carry the bottle in the crook of a finger
  • CamelBak Forge Vacuum Mug is dishwasher-safe for easy cleaning
  • Sizes – 16 ounces (MSRP $30) and 12 ounces (MSRP $29)
  • 12 oz. fits under most coffee machines.
  • Colors: 12 oz Steel Blue, Stormy Orange, Ghost Berry – 16 oz. : Black Smoke, Blue Steel, Ghost Berry, Olive Sky, Midnight Lilac
  • Dimensions: 12 oz – 7.48″ x 4.13″ and 16 oz – 8.85″ x 4.13″
