Sea Otter 2015 – SUNringlé MULEfüt Rims and Wheels and SRC Hubs

by Brian Mullin on April 23, 2015

For those Plus sized tires and forks, you need some corresponding Plus width rims, wheels, and hubs. The Hayes subsidiary SUNringlé has created new 50mm rims, Boost compatible front and rear hubs and complete wheelsets for this new size.

The MULEfüt 50 SL rim has a 50mm outer and 45mm inner width, comes in 27.5″ and 29″ sizes and weighs 619g and 655g respectively and retails for $140. The 32-hole oversized rims are made with 6061 series aluminum alloy and have lightening holes for reduced weight. They utilize the SUNringlé Tubeless Ready (STR) system that makes for an easy wide tire tubeless setup due to the short sidewalls and optimized tire well depth.

Their SRC hubs come in 15×110 and 12×148 sizes, have sealed cartridge bearings, a 3 Pawl spring system with 10-degree engagement for the freehub and are Shimano and SRAM XD compatible. They use an oversized rear axle design to increase durability and reduce flex, which helps with the greater loads from the fat wheels. The front weighs 200g and costs $75 while the rear is 315g and $135.

The MULEfüt 50 SL wheels use their SRC hubs and MULEfüt 50 SL rims, and they come in 27.5″ and 29″ sizes. They’re laced with Wheelsmith DB14 spokes and brass nipples in a 3-cross pattern. The wheels come with a tubeless kit, weigh 2200g total for the 27.5″ and 2200g for the 29″ and retail for $564 (front $204 and rear $360).
