GU Energy Sticks

GU Energy Sticks

After many years, research and development GU is announcing their first energy bar. The new GU Energy Stick is a whole-food bar with 200 calories and is made with natural ingredients and is comprised of 70% organic, gluten-free nutrition for bike rides and other outdoor endeavors. It uses roasted organic quinoa as the basis of the first two flavors, because quinoa has complex carbohydrates and contains all eight essential amino acids, making for a quality source of both energy and complete protein. The sticks also contain healthy fats from almonds, peanuts, and cocoa, and are a healthy, varied and clean source of complete nutrition. They’ll be available in early 2016 for $2.50 per stick, or $30 for a pack of 12.

Specs:

  • Crispy Honey Peanut GU Energy Sticks are made simply from organic dates, organic peanuts,
honey, organic quinoa and sea salt.
  • Crispy Chocolate Almond GU Energy Sticks are made from organic dates, almonds, organic semi-sweet dark chocolate, organic cocoa, organic quinoa, honey and sea salt.

15-serving GU Energy Gel and GU Roctane Gel

15-serving GU Energy Gel and GU Roctane Gel

GU recently announced the long-anticipated debut of their 15-serving GU Energy Gel and GU Roctane Gel. To go along with this new bulk packaging 15-serving GU Gel system is the GU Energy Flask. The flask was designed in partnership with my friends over at Hydrapak and was optimized for the thick viscosity of the GU Energy Gels. The soft flask will hold five servings at a time and can fit into nearly any hydration equipment, making it easier for athletes to fuel for longer efforts. GU has been working with TerraCycle to make 100% of their packaging recyclable. The new bulk packaging is designed to reduce litter: fewer packages mean less trash, less material used, and a cleaner environment.

The GU Energy Gel 15-Serving Pouch and Roctane Energy Gel 15-Serving Pouch will debut in the November time frame in the following flavors for $30.00 each:

  • Salted Caramel Energy Gel
  • Strawberry Banana Energy Gel
  • Sea Salt Chocolate Roctane
  • Blueberry Pomegranate Roctane

Honey Stinger

Honey Stinger

Honey Stinger unveiled two new product lines, Gluten Free Organic Stinger Waffles and Protein Energy Chews, along with the new Mango Orange Organic Energy Gel.

The traditional stroopwafel originated over 200 years ago in the Netherlands and were a waffle made from two thin layers of baked batter with a syrup filling. Honey Stinger’s version uses organic honey and other organic ingredients rather than syrup, making Stinger Waffles certified USDA Organic. The Honey Stinger Gluten Free Waffles will be available January 2016 for $1.49 each and come in three flavors, Cinnamon, Salted Caramel, and Maple. “We developed the line of Gluten Free Waffles in response to our most frequent customer request—to meet the nutritional needs of those avoiding gluten in training or dietary restrictions while maintaining the great taste of our original Stinger Waffles,” says Jennifer Shea, Honey Stinger national sales manager.

Their new Protein Energy Chews have the same size and similar texture of their Organic Energy Chews, but they’ve added naturally occurring fiber plus five grams of plant-based protein for sustained energy and recovery. The Protein Energy Chews will be available in January 2016 in Raspberry, Juneberry, and Cherry-Lime flavors and will retail for $2.49.

The new Mango Orange Organic Energy Gels will be available January 2016 for $1.39, and are certified gluten-free and are made with organic tapioca syrup, organic honey, added electrolytes and a blend of natural flavors.

The Gluten Free Organic Stinger Waffles are extremely tasty, and I couldn’t tell any difference between their normal product and these. I am happy this product came out since I missed getting to eat their waffles after being diagnosed with Celiacs a couple of years ago.

Glukos

Glukos

Glukos is a new performance energy brand that has a glucose-based nutritional lineup that includes gels, powders, tablets, gummies, and bars. Glucose is a simple sugar that provides the body with its primary source of energy and it can be used immediately as fuel. The Glukos products don’t contain any sucrose, fructose, high fructose corn syrup, artificial preservatives, additives, colors or caffeine. It’s made with only three basic ingredients, glucose, electrolytes and natural flavors. All of those other sugars have to be digested and absorbed in the intestines before being utilized for energy, and that conversion process take time, energy and blood flow, and in addition it produces triglycerides and lactic acid. Glucose, on the other hand, starts to be absorbed in your mouth immediately and continues to be absorbed in the digestive tract, and it absorbs twice as fast as the other sugars and produces double the energy.

The tablets have the taste and consistency of a yummy Sweet Tart while the gels have a thinner consistency rather than the thicker viscosity of their competitors. The gummies were quite tasty without being overly sweet as was their powders for use in water bottles and hydration reservoirs.

Product Specs

  • Energy bars – Apple Cinnamon, Peanut Butter, Chocolate and Lemon flavors in a case of 12 for $30
  • Gummies – Fruit Punch, Lemon and Orange flavors in a case of 12 for $24
  • Powders – Fruit Punch, Lemon and Orange flavors in a case of 12 for $15
  • Gels – Fruit Punch, Lemon and Orange flavors in a case of 12 for $24
  • Tablets – Orange flavor in a case of 12 tubes for $72

Isoride

Isoride

Isoride is a brand and a distinctive product line that is dedicated to the unique nutritional needs of elite endurance athletes. Their lineup includes an energy bars, energy and hydration tablets and energy gels. Their Gel-Snap product is quite interesting and instead of having to do the usual ripping off the top of the gel pack to get the ingredients: “You fold it with one hand, squirt the gel in your mouth, and put the empty packaging back in your pocket.” This innovative packaging system is portable and offers ‘on-the-fly’ one-hand opening.

Product Specs

  • Isoride Endure Hydration+Electrolytes drink tablets are formulated to provide optimal hydration and nutrient absorption and delivers a balanced combination of carbohydrates and micronutrients. It comes in an Orange flavor with 12 tablets for $16.99.
