Just In – Fresh Produce – Wolf Tooth Steel Chainrings and Tool Wrap, Money Fingers Bungee Cords and Swiftwick Socks

by Brian Mullin on December 3, 2015

Lots of new product for testing at GLB, including the gorgeous looking and long wearing Wolf Tooth steel chainrings and their companion alloy bash ring along with their new Travel Tool Wrap system. At Interbike, I picked up a set of the innovative Monkey Fingers Adjustable Bungee Cords, which work excellently for securing loads. For wearing on bike rides, I got several sets of the comfortable Swiftwick socks that utilize their Managed Compression technology, which helps reduce swelling and increase circulation.

Wolf Tooth Steel Drop-Stop Chainrings

Wolf Tooth Components have been creating durable stainless steel chainrings in 104 BCD sizes, and they’re now producing direct mount rings for SRAM cranks. The stainless steel chainrings will come in 24, 26, 28, and 30 tooth configurations with a 49mm chainline and will retail from $99-$110. They use 416 stainless steel that should make them last five times longer than their alloy counterparts. As a bonus, you can purchase an alloy bash ring for $46 to protect you precious chainrings. They’ll come in two sizes, one that covers the 24 to 26 and one for 28 to 30, and they directly bolt onto the steel chainrings.

I’ll be building up a 30-tooth chainring with the integrated bash ring on an older carbon SRAM X0 crankset. I am looking forward to real world durability testing of the testing of the steel chainrings, especially since my riding style puts a lot of low-end torque on the drivetrain system. The craftsmanship of their products is outstanding, and some great engineering design, and CNC work was done on the products.

I have been using them in my truck to secure loads and its simple to adjust them to the required length. You just slide the hooks along the cord to the desired length and then loop the extra or remaining cord back down into the hook, locking it in place, and then attach the Money Fingers to tie things down.

Swiftwick Vision, Pursuit and Aspire Socks

The VISION EIGHT (Orange) was developed to achieve one goal… bring the Swiftwick advantage to your ride. It is available in designs that sync with any team kits or apparel design and they’re built with their signature Managed Compression and moisture wicking technologies. The true 8″ cuff stays up on your leg through any ride, no matter the terrain and conditions.

The PURSUIT EIGHT (Gray) is the world’s first 200 needle compression sock made from all-natural Merino Wool, sourced from farmers in the U.S. The premium-cut fibers create a soft, non-scratchy feel. Their Linked-Toe technology prevents blisters by eliminating bunching in the toe box. Combine this with their Managed Compression that supports all three arches of the foot, and you have a no-hotspot, blister-free, perfect-fitting sock.

The ASPIRE EIGHT (Black) is thin and light for serious runners and cyclists, yet still perfect for athletes of any sport. Their Managed Compression prevents bunching and hot spots by supporting all three arches of the foot. Their Linked-Toe technology prevents blisters by eliminating bunching in the toe box. The result is a sock designed to fit your feet perfectly while helping you do what moves you.

I have been wearing the VISION EIGHT and PURSUIT EIGHT quite a lot over the last few months and found them to be extremely comfortable and durable. I use the VISION EIGHT when a thinner sock is needed for tighter shoes and the merino wool PURSUIT EIGHT for additional warmth and comfort in looser fitting shoes. Both of these higher topped socks stay up on the leg without any drooping issues. The Managed Compression work as advertised, and is especially noticeable after a long ride, providing decreased swelling and fatigue and improved circulation.
