Kestrel Pro Boa

Five Ten has wholly revised their discontinued Kestrel Boa model with the new 2019 Kestrel Pro Boa to help improve and optimize the fit. They moved the Boa lacing system upwards, and it no longer as far towards the toes, and a Velcro strap at the bottom has now replaced the last Boa or third loop of its predecessor.

Otherwise, it shares the same uppers and outsole as the functional Freerider Pro and Kestrel Lace. The heel cup is now more recessed, and the back inside of the heel area is now lined with an anti-slip material that is sort of like a cat’s tongue which should help prevent lift and provide a more secure hold.

Troy Lee Designs Special Edition

Working with Troy Lee Designs company Five Ten now will have the Kestrel Boa Pro and Impact Pro shoes in the bright TLD color scheme to match their riding kits. There should be additional shoes down the pike with more color schemes, products, and apparel.

The Impact Pro looks fantastic with the TLD colors.

Five Tennie

Five Ten’s first shoe that hey brought to the marketplace was the cult classic Five Tennie way back in 1985. The approach-shoe was founder Charles Cole’s creation in which he added grippy rubber onto the bottom of a tennis shoe upper. He eventually developed the now ubiquitous Stealth which is now Five Ten’s trademark of uber sticky rubber which can be found on their climbing, bike, and cross sports shoes. Eventually, the Five Tennie model was dropped, and replaced by Guide Tennie and others, but this Spring the Five Tennie is being resurrected!

First and foremost for this new model, they are now making a version of the Five Tennie for women! The newly updated shoe gets lots of new design changes considerably due to their newer owners, adidas. All of their current approach shoes utilize their standard circular/button lugs for grip, but the lugs on the new Five Tennie Stealth S1 outsole are notched like an hourglass to improve traction when scrambling uphill on rock and loose terrain. At the very front of the sole is a section that has been optimized for climbing. Other adidas technology includes a gusseted tongue, a sock-like construction, and soft internals uppers so you can go barefoot. Additionally, it features a full leather upper and an extended rubber rands for durability.

Aleon

The Aleon features the adidas Primeknit material for the closure and lining which should provide a sock-like fit. The microfiber upper holds its shape without stretching, and it utilizes a single Velcro strap at the top to securely hold your foot.

It has a downturned and asymmetrical design and is meant for climbing on steep, overhanging bouldering and sport routes. It features their sticky Stealth C4 rubber for improved grip, along with a medium stiff midsole for support, stability and sensitivity.

And unfortunately, Five Ten Charles Cole just recently passed away at the age of 63, RIP Charles and thanks for the incredible legacy you left all of us.
