Opinel

This gorgeous new knife is a collaboration between Opinel, artist Sam Larson and the mission-driven crew over at Wylder. Sam brings his distinctive style and love for the outdoors to the design, which was unveiled for the first time at the Outdoor Retailer Summer 2018 show.

This limited edition classic No.8 pocket knife is inspired by the mountain west and released exclusively with Wylder in celebration of our public lands. The iconic N°08 pocket knife is available with a stainless steel blade for excellent corrosion resistance. Its beech wood handle makes it feels secure and comfortable in the hand. This multi-purpose tool is a real must-have to carry with you day-to-day. The knife retails for $30, and proceeds from the sale of the knife will benefit the Outdoor Alliance, a nonprofit that unites the voices of outdoor enthusiasts to conserve public lands.

Simply put, this is the knife to carry with you. It’s light and sturdy; tough enough to handle your backcountry endeavors and sleek enough to dazzle your picnic spread.

  • Blade length – 8.5 cm
  • Sandvik stainless steel – We use Sandvik 12C27 modified stainless steel. It is anti-corrosive thanks to the addition of chrome and requires no special maintenance. Its carbon content of at least 0.40% gives an excellent cutting edge.
  • Yatagan blade – The classic Opinel blade has adopted a Yatagan shape. The Yatagan shape is inspired by a traditional Turkish saber, the toe up. The blade is ground to an exclusive convex profile that ensures the strength of the blade and allows efficient regrinding.
  • Handle – Beech is the most commonly used wood for the manufacture of Opinel handles. From France, our beech is hard, durable and easy to work. With a homogeneous appearance, its light color varies from yellow to pink. It is characterized by the presence of numerous small dark dashes.
  • Safety ring – Invented by Marcel Opinel in 1955, the Virobloc safety ring is fitted to all folding knives from the N° 06. Cut out of stainless steel; the Virobloc has two sections, one fixed and one sliding. In addition to locking the blade open (safety in use), it is now possible to lock the blade closed (safety in transport).
