Designed from the ground up, these bibshorts are based around an entirely new design concept, which GORE® calls the Central Torso Architecture concept. The connection between a rider and their bicycle is the most critical in all of cycling. Comfort can make or break your race. And even the average cyclist knows that a poorly designed bib short can ruin your day.
After years of refinement, including work with athletes including Fabian Cancellara, GORE® Wear is ready to introduce a new way of designing bib shorts based on the Central Torso Architecture concept. In this concept, the shorts are held in place across the middle of the body to maximize freedom of movement. In the cycling position, the center of the body is mainly in a fixed state, but dynamic racing can also lead to dynamic movement. Sharp corners, punchy attacks or grabbing a feedbag while traveling at 40 kph — in these situations the body should be able to move freely while the shorts and seat pad remain firmly in place to avoid chafing. Our Central Torso Architecture anchors the short securely at the thigh, lower back and shoulders to do just that.
This concept is one of the highlights of the new GORE® Wear C7 Pro Race Concept apparel line, which is our most efficient and high performing cycling apparel to date. To help us refine this new bib short collection, we received input from multi-time world champion and Olympic gold medalist Fabian Cancellara and his 17 years of professional racing experience.
The seat pad used in this collection is attached to the rest of the shorts with minimal stitching, utilizing an advanced sewing technology. While just as durable, the reduction of seams decreases the chance for chafing while also allowing the seat pad to move more freely with the rider.
The overall fit of the outfit was strongly inspired by Cancellara who prefers wide, flat-laying bib straps, a low profile junction, and shorts that drape around the thigh without a minimal amount of panels. On the jersey, the longer sleeves match the modern road cycling aesthetic, while the draped tail provides ample coverage even in the most aggressive road cycling position.
The collection consists of three new bib shorts, each specifically designed around a particular need with a fabric and seat pad make-up of its own.
