The NeatIce is an innovative high-tech ice bag for coolers, that is constructed from Denier Nylon with a TPU liner and zipper (all BPA free), and can hold 8 pounds of ice. Think of it as an extremely tough durable giant resealable ziplock bag with a rugged leakproof triple closure system. It offers a waterproof container that won’t leak and will keep the water and ice contents clean without allowing any external contaminated water and debris from getting inside.

Why?

We all use coolers of some sort for keeping food and drink products cold, and usually, we resort to buying an ice bag at the store or grabbing what we can from the home freezer. The flimsy ice bags tear and leak, and just like ice from home it eventually melts and leaves a waterlogged mess in the cooler. Once you have free water sloshing around in the cooler it could contact raw meats or other bacteria-laden substances and things can become a safety hazard as everything in the cooler can get cross-contaminated.  You can use gel freezer packs or freeze water in water jugs/bottles to prevent water from accumulating in the cooler, but when those methods are no longer cold, you don’t have an easy way to refreeze them. If you have access to new ice, which is easy unless you’re super remote from things, you can replenish the Neatice contents with fresh ice so that you can continue to have a source of cooling.

The one and only NeatIce bag to keep your cooler clean, organized and hygienic.

Features

The NeatIce kit retails for $39.99 and includes the bag, a Velcro strap, and a quick connect 10″ drain hose with an auto shutoff valve. When the bag is empty, it rolls up into an excellent compact and stowable package, secured by their Velcro strap.

Just open up the top of the Neatice and pour ice into the inside of the bag. Add an 8-pound bag of crushed/cubed ice or keep filling it until it’s about 2/3’s full. If you add too much ice, you won’t be able to close it properly, though its simple to dump out the extra ice for the proper fill. It’s opening is about the perfect size to fill it from hotel/motel ice dispensers, making it ideal while road tripping. The bag works for ice bags from grocery stores and gas stations, ice from home, restaurant and hotel machines, making it suitable for travel, camping, picnics, etc.

The inner top closure is a rugged TPU ziplock type system, that is robust and large enough to provide excellent durability and long life. Once the ziplock is slid and pinched shut, roll the middle top over itself and push its Velcro sections together, and finally fold the top flap over and push the remaining Velcro strips together. Now the Neatice bladder is all sealed and won’t leak, even when turned upside and full of liquid.

Impressions

Once the ice has been added to the NeatIce, and it’s been sealed you can toss it into any decently sized cooler, just like a standard block or bag of ice, but with a big difference. You won’t have to worry about any melted ice or extraneous water leaking from the bladder and getting into the inside of the cooler, and to ruin or to get things wet, including items such as dry supplies, meats, fruits, vegetables, etc. All the products in the cooler benefit from the chilling aspects of the ice and ice water in the NeatIce bag, but don’t get the problems like contamination and cross-contamination that you can experience with a water mixture slogging around the insides of the cooler.

Once the ice starts to melt in the bag and some water has accumulated you can snap on the drain hose with its quick connector and using the on/off valve at the bottom and get cold, clean drinking water for yourself or your furry friend. Additionally, you can open up the top of the bag and take out ice cubes for beverages.

How do you keep it from molding? Can you turn it inside out to completely dry before rolling up?

It can be turned inside out if desired. I just patted it dry with a towel and propped it open to air dry, and never had any issues or funkiness. Though I do live in a pretty dry high mountain desert environment, so usually things never get very moldy.

Brian

Can you fill it with water and freeze that bag as another option for ice?

I’ve done it myself and it works but I advise that it isn’t the recommended usage and may void the warranty. It does cause a ton of condensation on the outside of the bag because the solid ice is so much colder than cubed ice and the sharpness of the solid ice in the bag may prematurely wear out the bag.
