Ibis Bow-Ti

The pivotless titanium Ibis Bow-Ti was one of the crowning achievements of John Castellano’s patented Sweet Spot suspension project, and if offered around 5 inches of plush and active rear suspension. It’s built from Ti 3Al/2.5V tubes, along with bits and pieces of Ti 6Al/4V and Ti 15V/3Cr/3Al/3Sn. The rear triangle act’s like the leaf springs on a car, and the BowTi’s flexing members will hold up through thousands and thousands of cycles without any degradation.

It cost a pricey cost $3,500 back in the late ’90s, and it was a love and hate frame for most people. It’s overly stiff when standing on the pedals, too plush while sitting, and it sometimes suffers during braking and can toss the rider off balance on occasion. But it’s gorgeous and a drool-worthy bike that anyone would want in their permanent collection.

Diamondback Bikes

We took a look at Diamondback’s long-travel carbon Mission 1C carbon bike with 180mm up front and 160mm in the rear and their 29er aluminum Release 29 2.

For further information refer to diamondback.com.

Mission 1C

The Mission has been completely redesigned: longer, lower, slacker, and unflappable on steep trails. With 180mm of travel up front and 160mm in the back, this all-mountain ripper opens up new terrain and bigger lines. A carbon monocoque frame features our Level Link suspension system, so you can stop moaning and pedal to the top. Point it downhill, and the Mission comes alive with all the playful poppiness of Level Link. The Mission 1C comes equipped with a RockShox Super Deluxe R shock, a RockShox Yari RC fork, SRAM Guide R brakes, and an SRAM GX Eagle drivetrain. Tubeless Ready 27.5 Blanchard rims allow you to convert to a tubeless setup. When your objective is the descent, choose the Mission. MSRP $4000.

Release 29 2

The Release 29 2 is the lankier sibling of the Release and Catch full-suspension mountain bikes. Designed for high-mileage days with a high shred factor, this aluminum trail ripper is built on the same 130mm travel Level Link suspension platform as its smaller-wheeled siblings. We’ve adjusted the geometry for 29-inch wheels while keeping the same playful attitude that our Level Link bikes have become known for.

The Fox Float DPS Performance shock is outfitted with an EVOL LV air sleeve for excellent responsiveness and a bottomless feel to soak up the worst on steep, technical terrain. A 140mm travel Fox Rhythm 34 fork, Shimano SLX drivetrain, and hydraulic stoppers let you stay focused, no matter what the trail dishes out. MSRP $2700.
