Sneak Peek – Smith Optics Mainline MIPS Bike Helmet

The Smith Optics Mainline is their first foray into a DH certified full-face mountain bike helmet. The Mainline offers exceptional protection and features complete Koroyd coverage and the MIPS rotational system, with integrated internal air channels and open exhaust ports to maximize breathability and ventilation. It utilizes 21 optimized vents and the AirEvac ventilation system, which allows goggles and helmet to function in synergy, venting warm, moist air away from the goggle, and back away from the head. Tired eyes and body from cold days shooting! Couple of BTS back from our shoot for the new @smithoptics Mainline fullface helmet. Smith hasn’t released any details on the Mainline as yet, but the Rocky Mountain Enduro team was sharing photos of the helmet on Instagram, and a few retailers had information online.

It features the MIPS (Multidirectional Impact Protection) system which helps reduce rotational motion by absorbing and redirecting rotational energies and forces transferred to the brain from angled impacts to the head. The Koroyd material consists of thousands of co-polymer extruded tubes thermally welded together, which offers a structure with efficient and consistent energy absorption properties. Upon impact the cores crush in a completely controlled manner, decelerating the energy from the impact and reducing the final trauma levels, and it even works well during low-energy crashes.

It utilizes a lightweight Aerocore in-mold construction, has an adjustable visor, and is light/camera mount compatible. It includes three sets of uniquely sized cheek pads, two sets of uniquely sized crown liners, and two unique neck rolls to ensure a proper fit. The simple harness secures with a tried and true D-ring chin strap fastener.
