Showers Pass Continues Innovation in Waterproof Jacket Design

Portland, OR – Showers Pass today introduces the Men’s and Women’s Elements Jackets, adding to their growing line of technically engineered trail riding apparel. The Elements Jacket is lightweight and packable, built with fully seam-taped 2.5-layer waterproof-breathable performance fabric. A bit of stretch allows for greater freedom of movement, and the carbon-print lining provides natural odor-resistance and a far drier next-to-skin feel than other 2.5-layer materials. The Elements Jacket is also part of Showers Pass’ Clean Color collection, using eco-friendly dyes that keep harmful chemicals out of the manufacturing process.

The Elements Jacket is loaded with features for durability, wearability, and performance in wet and variable weather conditions: a removable hood, front pockets, reinforced shoulders, and core ventilation. But its greatest strength is its versatility. “This incredibly comfortable rain jacket was designed for mountain biking, but it’s such an essential wardrobe element that it never makes it back into the closet,” says Jeremy Rider, PR Director at Showers Pass. “It transitions seamlessly from singletrack to supermarket.”

The MTB Lab Overview

Features

The Elements jacket utilizes a fully seam-taped Artex 2.5 layer waterproof and breathable hardshell fabric for protection from inclement weather. For protection from the abrasion and wear from backpack straps, it features rugged reinforced shoulder sections. For comfort purposes, it has long front zippered vent ports on each side to help with overheating and a soft neck collar with moisture-wicking lining material. For safety is has a 360-degree wraparound reflective trim for maximum visibility in low light and at night.

It features a chest media pocket (with internal audio port) and two large mesh hand pockets, one with sunglasses wipe. Like their typical designs, the jacket has a rear drop hem for water protection and rear-wheel splatter, and it has Velcro wrist cuffs and a cinch hem at the waist/hips.

It has a removable hood that attaches with a long zipper and two Velcro patches. When not in use, the zipper is hidden underneath the external rear neck cuff. The hood is adjustable with rear and side stretchy cinch cord locks, making for lots of fitment. The hood fits over a helmet and stows in its pocket. For night safety, there is a small loop on the rear of the neck to attach a light.

First Impressions

The jacket is decently lightweight and eminently packable, and the Artex 2.5 layer material is waterproof and breathable. The jacket material is thick enough to offer durability and robustness, and a nice amount of warmth and wind resistance. It’s full of features that make it extremely useful and functional. The long front zipper ports allow some decent amount of ventilation to prevent overheating from becoming overbearing. The full-length front main zipper has a great flap coverage to avoid water and air intrusion, and it can be quickly zipped up or down for temperature alteration. I liked the soft plush lining at the neck cuff, which was extremely comfortable and proved functional wicking capabilities. The wide Velcro wrist cuffs are comfortable and provide plenty of adjustment. The additional stuck on rugged material at the shoulder section provides excellent durability and wear protection, and area that would see a lot of abrasions.

The large zippered hand pockets were quite lovely, and it was useful to have the sunglasses wipe in one of them.

The dropped rear was nice as it prevented tire splatter and kept the rain rolling off your back and not into your shorts/chamois. The cinch hem at the bottom rear provided adjustment to keep in the warmth and prevent errant water intrusion. The removable hood was a nice feature, and I like that the zipper tucked away discreetly when the hood wasn’t being used, making for a superior clean design. When attached, the hood has three elastic cinch lock, one at the rear, and one on either side, all of which offered lots of adjustabilities.

Bottom Line

The Showers Pass Elements Jacket is well made, tough, waterproof, breathable, and packable, and offers a ton of useful features. It has kept me warm, dry, and comfortable during some ugly summer storms.  I am looking forward to using it during the fall cusp season when the inclement weather can be very unpredictable.
