A precision one-piece carbon system that gives you more speed with more control in every situation – now with a wider 30mm inner width

The Syncros Silverton SL is a one-piece full carbon mountain bike wheelset, with a 20-spoke count, a 1,250g to 1,300g weight, and a high $3499 cost. They come in a 29-inch sizing with an existing 26mm internal width and the brand new 30mm internal width. The wheels were designed as an entire system, so the spokes, hookless rim, and hub shell with DT Swiss 190 internals work in tandem for optimal stiffness, weight, and ride quality. We first saw the Silverton SL at Sea Otter 2018 Festival with the initial XC-oriented 26mm version.

“The Syncros Silverton SL wheel is super light, but the benefits don’t just stop here. The construction removes weight from the rim, allowing for super-fast acceleration. It’s also stiff, allowing for great power transfer, tracking, and in particular, cornering. Perfect for World Cup racing.”

They developed a one-piece mold with a unique tensioning process to provide a one-piece rim, spoke, and spider construction. Their new Silverton wheels have been re-engineered from the ground up, resulting in three key benefits for the rider of faster acceleration, cornering, and braking.

  • More Reactive  1250g Centralized Mass = Improved acceleration, braking, and more reactive steering.
  • Faster +100% Torsional Stiffness = Increased power transfer, improved acceleration.
  • More Precise +30% Lateral Stiffness = Cornering stability and precision steering.

Spoke Tension contributes to the lateral stiffness of the wheel. As a result of their one-piece molded construction and unique pre-straining process, they achieve a higher spoke tension than other carbon wheels, resulting in a more lively wheel and a more responsive ride. Their carbon spokes weigh 3.5g each instead of 5.7g for steel spoke and yet are 35% stronger.

Unlike traditional spoke fixation, the Silverton SL’s spokes are bonded directly to the rim and pull from the hub’s opposite side and rim, increasing torsional rigidity.

The SL’s one-piece construction, a single spoke actually runs from rim to rim, and additionally, they’re actually woven at the intersection. This has the effect of shortening the spokes between the hub and the rim. As the rim is constructed in one hollow piece, the only drilling is for the valve stem resulting in a fully tubeless ready system. The hookless bead provides increased impact protection and reduced pinch-flats. The optimal number of spokes for the ideal strength to weight ratio was a 20 spoke wheel; less than this required a heavier construction while more spokes were less torsionally stiff.

They use high-quality DT Swiss 190 hub internals, including ceramic bearings and the Star Ratchet freehub, for top performance and reliability.

The official pricing has not been divulged yet, but assume it should be the current 26mm models $3,499? The release date should be sometime this summer.
