Carbitex is one of the pioneers of flexible carbon fiber textiles used in performance footwear. For cycling, their fabric technology offers power transfer, immediate response, and better pedal connection. They’re currently integrated into Scott’s MTB RC SL Supersonic shoe and the Mavic XA Flex flat pedal shoe.

With the growing carbon fiber trend in performance footwear, Carbitex is at the forefront of the industry with the first uniquely flexible carbon fiber technologies. Available in three distinct platforms  – CX6, AFX, and DFX.

CX6

Extreme Performance. Exceptionally Flexible.

Carbon fiber has the highest tensile strength of any commercially available fiber. And within its operating limits, it doesn’t stretch. Carbitex CX6 harnesses these key characteristics in an exceptionally flexible form – enabling carbon fiber performance in soft applications. Applications include footwear, sports equipment, and travel products. The Scott MTB RC SL Supersonic uses the CX6 fabric.

  • Power Transfer – Low stretch property increases power transfer.
  • Immediate Response – Quick power transfer enables rapid response.
  • Precise Control – Virtually no elongation enables precise control.
  • No Creep – No stretch under constant load.
  • More With Less – Use less to achieve results. Lower weight and less bulk.
  • Aesthetic Options – Over 30 combinations of weaves, weights, colors, and finishes.
  • Tunable Performance – Tensile strength, abrasion resistance, UV stability, tongue tear, etc.
  • Manufacturing Integration – Compatible with traditional cut-and-sew methods as well as advanced manufacturing methods.

AFX

Asymmetrically Flexible – One-Way Flexibility.

Traditional materials flex equally in both directions. AFX carbon fiber plates are flexible in one direction and stiff in the other. The Mavic XA Flex uses the AFX fabric plate.

  • Asymmetric Flexibility – Flexible in one direction and stiff in the other.
  • Lightweight – Maintains carbon fiber’s lightweight characteristics.
  • Ratio – Comes in a variety of flexibility ratios.
  • Multidimensional Flexibility – Tunable longitudinal, transverse, and torsional flexibility.
  • Consistent Performance – Flex for 500,000 cycles and maintain performance.
  • Won’t crack – Traditional carbon fiber plates crack, AFX plates won’t crack when flexed.

DFX

Dynamically Flexible – Exponential Stiffness Change.

DFX plates exponentially increase stiffness to optimize performance in changing scenarios. For instance, DFX can offer sneaker-like flexibility when walking and track spike stiffness when sprinting.

  • Dynamic Flex – Non-linear increase in stiffness when flexed.
  • Tunable – Tunable for virtually every performance footwear category.
  • Lightweight – Maintains carbon fiber’s lightweight characteristics.
  • Consistent Performance – Flex for millions of cycles and maintain performance.
  • Won’t crack – Traditional carbon fiber plates crack, AFX plates won’t crack when flexed.

Carbitex has expanded its presence in the cycling market with its flexible carbon fiber materials currently incorporated in select models of MTB shoes from Scott Sports and Mavic for 2021, with future expansion in the MTB space in progress. Backed by a rigorous lab and field testing, Carbitex flexible carbon fiber composites are lightweight and responsive, so riders experience efficient power transfer, precise control, and increased connection to the pedals.  Carbitex is in-market with 12 performance footwear brands like adidas, Scott, DC, and Mavic in 8 categories including mountain and road cycling, road and trail running, soccer, and snowboarding. They grew revenue 510% between 2019 and 2020, with continued momentum in 2021 and beyond.
