On Its First Birthday, Revolutionary GPS Sportwatch Wahoo RIVAL Now Links to Stryd, Giving Runners Access to Real-Time Power Data

Software Update Also Improves In-App Data Visibility

One year ago, endurance technology leader Wahoo introduced the ELEMNT RIVAL GPS sports watch. Since then, Wahoo has continually added functionality, making RIVAL the choice of some of the world’s best runners, ultramarathon racers, and triathletes, including Jan Frodeno, Ben, and Sarah True, Jim Walmsley, and Heather Jackson.

Wahoo has released a software update that adds two new features, the latest in a series of updates that will continue into 2022 as the company adds more capabilities to RIVAL.

The first of today’s updates is a change to the ELEMNT mobile app, which now includes a statistics tab that consolidates fitness data into one easily accessed module, giving athletes a quick view of their performance metrics. In addition, RIVAL now integrates with running power pod Stryd, giving runners access to performance data in real-time and allowing more efficient, focused training. Colorized power zone fields will also be added to RIVAL later this fall, allowing athletes to more easily use power data while running.

“RIVAL was a groundbreaking sports watch when we launched it in November 2020,” said Wahoo CEO Mike Saturnia. “Since then, we’ve continued to add new features making it an even more powerful training tool for all our athletes, whether they are just starting to run and swim or if they’re pushing their fitness and training limits with monumental challenges like Ironman races or marathon majors.”

Stryd aims to help every kind of runner improve their fitness by using motion-capture technology that measures running performance. By transmitting data in real-time to RIVAL, runners are able to see their Stryd data during workouts, ensuring that they are consistently training in the correct power zones to work toward specific goals.

New Statistics tab for RIVAL in Wahoo ELEMNT App

At the same time, Wahoo will update the ELEMNT app, introducing a Statistics tab, where athletes will be able to review their workout data, along with other health data that gets recorded outside of workouts. With additional planned software updates, RIVAL users will be able to see average resting heart rate, heart rate variability, and other health tracking data in the Statistics Tab (looking forward to these stats!).

Wahoo is looking forward to continuing to add more features into RIVAL as it enters its second year, with the goal of making it the most feature-rich sport watch available at its price point. Other updates planned include Android music control, drill/kick mode for pool swimming, breadcrumb navigation, sleep tracking, and updated user interfaces.
