Outdoor Retailer Snow 2022 – Walkabout Day 1

The Outdoor Retailer Snow 2022 was quieter than previous years, significantly due to COVID and the current Omicron variant. But there were plenty of exciting vendors on the show floor; Hot Bento is a self-heating lunch box, Field Company offers lighter/smoother cast iron cookware, and the Pak-Jak jacket has an interchangeable and removable back panel design for sweat reduction while hiking with a pack. Moonbikes produces powerful electric snowbikes (think mini-snowmobile), and Bindle Bottle makes an innovative insulated water bottle with an integrated storage compartment. Lastly, Gear Hugger has a plant-powered and non-toxic lubricant.

Hot Bento

Hot Bento is a self-heating lunch box that uses integrated rechargeable batteries to create thermoelectric heat. It offers a hot meal in 10 minutes-anywhere.

Pak-Jak

Pak-Jak (backPAcKing JAcKet) is the world’s first jacket with an interchangeable and removable back panel that helps eliminate back sweat while hiking. When hiking in cold weather, it’s hard to stay at a comfortable temperature. You start with warm layers, but then you heat up and start sweating. You either remain overheated or shed layers and eventually freeze again. You’re stuck in a loop.

Pak-Jak solves this issue on-the-go flexibility design. Swap the back of the jacket out with mesh for increased breathability or, better yet, altogether remove the back. This covers your arms and core while leaving ventilation for your back where you need it the most. • Detachable Hood – There is a six-button connection for the hood, and it can be attached and detached with ease. When there is no back, and you use the 2nd and 5th snap to connect your shoulder straps to your backpack, the hood still attaches to the first and last snaps.

• Universal Shoulder Straps – The upper straps hold the Pak-Jak in place. They can be attached to virtually any backpack you own and adjusted before leaving your house. They stay attached to the backpack and connect to the Pak-Jak with a snap.
• Interchangeable Mesh Back Panel – Although their design works and will be used mainly without a back, they offer a mesh back panel. This panel is entirely interchangeable with the puffy back panel and uses the same YKK zippers. This allows you to wear the Pak-Jak as a standard jacket while getting some additional airflow to your back.

• Back Strap – You can also use the back strap instead of connecting to your backpack, and it uses the same button snaps as the lower straps (though you can’t use both simultaneously).
• Universal Lower Straps – The lower straps can also be attached to your backpack and connect to the Pak-Jak at the lower snaps.
