Not only is the cause a good one, but so is the story. Luke Hontz, adidas Five Ten Senior Project Manager for Bike, wanted to elevate awareness about breast cancer. He also wanted to support his mother, a breast cancer survivor. When Luke started working with Five Ten more than a decade ago, his mother was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. He’d just embarked on a new career; consequently, he had to travel a lot, both in the US and internationally. While he supported his mother the best he could but wasn’t able to spend the one-on-one time, he would have liked. He was always frustrated that he could not have done more. As a breast cancer survivor, Luke’s mom has shared her experience with her son. Two years ago, Luke realized he was at the position in his life/career where he could make a difference, honoring his mother and all others impacted by Breast Cancer by creating a unique shoe to raise awareness.

You’ve never seen a shoe quite like the adidas BCA Freerider Pro Canvas. Professional mountain bike rider/adidas Five Ten athlete, Veronique Sandler, worked with Luke Hontz to create a unique design. She spoke with breast cancer survivors to discover symbols they looked to for courage and solace. Each shoe boldly but gracefully carries poignant, eye-catching graphics to raise awareness of and support for women (and men) battling and surviving breast cancer. Says Sandler, “One theme I heard over and over again was the importance of outdoors for many survivors. Just getting out and walking is a big step.”

Listen to these stories of how the outdoors has been so important in the process of dealing with breast cancer for an inspiring group of women. Their stories of strength and courage are incredibly moving, and we hope that by providing a platform for breast cancer patients to tell their stories, we can help raise awareness about breast cancer. Throughout our breast cancer awareness documentary, you’ll hear stories from a group of women as they discuss their journeys from initial diagnosis through to their coping mechanisms during and after treatment, detailing how they embraced the outdoors and found strength in nature. Working with Breast Cancer Now in the UK and Europe, and National Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc. in the US, adidas has created the Breast Cancer Awareness Collection. £15/€15/$15 from each full-price sale of the adidas Breast Cancer Awareness Collection will be donated to these charities contributing to the important work that they’re doing. A huge Thank You goes to@National Breast Cancer Foundation and @Breast Cancer Now.
