Outdoor Research is jumping more directly into the trail category with the launch of the Freewheel Collection, an eight-piece mountain bike assortment for Spring 2024. Many new Freeride pieces are available in inclusive sizing, a category where Outdoor Research has led the outdoor industry in recent years. In addition, the other two items are the new Astroman Air Hoodie and Astroman Hair Shortsleeve Shirt.

Freewheel Half Zip Hoodie

The Freewheel Half Zip Hoodie is a breathable, quick-drying layer that protects against wind and moisture on cool or finicky weather days. Bike-specific fit and features include a drop-tail hem, an extended front zip for easy on and off, articulated cuffs that can partially cover the hands, a 3-panel hood that fits underneath a helmet, and strategically placed shoulder seams for comfortable pack wear. The Freewheel Hoodie’s durable double-weave fabric offers movement-mirroring stretch to complement quick reactions on the bike and features bluesign®-approved and recycled materials. It also has integrated UPF 50+ sun protection for long days in the saddle. Available in inclusive sizes from XS to 4X Plus — $179.

ActiveTemp™, a thermo-regulating treatment, helps manage your temperature on epic rides. The jersey adds an integrated microfiber wipe on the hem for cleaning eyewear. Outdoor Research considered every detail in creating the perfect trail-riding shorts. Starting with a sturdy four-way stretch fabric, they added DuraPrint®, a 3D-printed overlay, on the outer hems for extra abrasion resistance in high-wear areas. Duraprint’s proprietary resin-based structure adds durability without adding weight or impeding flexibility in the fabric. A higher back waist offers better coverage when seated. Laser perforations in the back yoke increase breathability. And low-profile waist adjustment tabs dial in the fit. Hip pockets and a clever slide lock snap closure are welcome, intuitive features. Available in inclusive sizes from XS to 4X Plus — $115.

Freewheel Leather Palm Bike Gloves & Freewheel Bike Gloves

Freewheel Bike Gloves / Freewheel Leather Palm Bike Gloves

For decades, Outdoor Research has built category-leading gloves for almost every outdoor sport except biking. That changes in Spring 2024 — OR brought its extensive glove expertise to the new Freewheel Bike Gloves. The regular Freewheel Bike Gloves excel while pedaling and descending without the need to remove the gloves. They use a lightweight nylon/spandex mesh and a synthetic suede palm for dexterity and durability with minimal weight. The Freewheel Leather Palm Bike Gloves use a heavier nylon/spandex mesh paired with durable goat leather palm and DuraPrint®, a 3D-printed overlay, on the back of the hand for added abrasion resistance in high-wear areas. Both gloves have strategically placed seams on the index finger for better dexterity on brake levers. And both are touchscreen compatible and have a back-of-thumb sweat wipe — $39 and $59.

Freewheel Hip Pack

A hip pack is a must-have for mountain biking, but most are too small for long rides. The Freewheel 5L is big enough for any adventure yet packs more compact for quick laps. It features a water-bottle holster on one side, a large hydration-compatible main compartment, a smaller sunglasses compartment on the back, and a tuck-away storage net that adds capacity for carrying bulky items like knee pads — $85.
