Introducing Project321’s third-generation hub design, the G3 hubs. These hubs have higher engagement via their proven magnetic-actuated pawls, innovative 6-Lock brake flange technology, updated axles and bearings, improved seals, and many more features. The G3 was first seen at Sea Otter last year, and they are finally available.
G3 Hubs
Instant, Rock-Solid Engagement
- 1.25° / 288 Points of Engagement (POE)
- Eight 3-step pawls phased in teams of two
- 72-tooth drive ring with oversized teeth
The G3 hubs are based on the exact proven magnetic actuation as their G2s, with some innovative new technical features. They have upgraded the hubs with 288 POE (points of engagement) and 1.25° rotation by having four teams of 2 pawls (8 pawls.) The older G2 hubs utilized and had 216 POE and 1.66° of rotation.
When engaged, multiple teeth on each pawl lock into a hardened steel ratchet ring while each pawl’s magnet ensures perfect alignment.
The heart of the G3 hub is a bombproof locking engagement system with eight pawls equipped with Neodymium rare earth magnets.
Magnetic Glide Technology
- Magnetically actuated pawls minimize drag while coasting
- Fewer moving parts
- No easy-to-lose springs
- Less drag. Less maintenance.
6-Lock
- A new and enhanced six-bolt design featuring stainless steel threads
- There is no lock ring, only T25 Torx hardware
- Easily converts from six bolt to Center Lock
- 6-Lock Technology is an improved six-bolt design that gives versatility when running a Center Lock.
Their 6-Lock System allows you to use a CL or 6-bolt rotor with an innovative flange system on the same hub. They created a hub with a 6-bolt/Center-Lock convertible flange that will allow fitment of both style rotors.
It’s not the typical adapter system that utilizes a CL flange and a lock ring. Instead, their split ring 6-bolt system fits into a slot under the CL interface, then their CL flange slides onto the 6-bolt flange, and then you attach a 6-bolt rotor. When the bolts are tightened down, the system smoothly snugs itself into place, locking down the rotor without any lock ring required. Remove the 6-Lock System and convert the hub back to normal CL usage.
The solution is elegant and straightforward and, according to P321, has proven to be very strong and reliable. In terms of mounting a 6-bolt rotor, it has several advantages over and above traditional 6-bolt flanges.
The 6-bolt flange has a split ring that fits into a groove/slot on the hub, and the CL flange then meshes into their CL hub.
