The Gnara Go There Short allows “people to answer nature’s call comfortably, confidently, and safely.” The shorts are designed with two zippers, one for pulling the shorts on and a second, more hidden zipper for accessing your nether region when urinating. The tag includes instructions on how to address the universal need to pee discreetly–no need to undress, no need to bare your behind fully. You are (mostly) kept covered, but the zipper exposes enough essential anatomy to get the job done. They call the zipper the GoFly. Patented GoFly Technology includes:
- Gnara’s GoFly Zipper—In addition to the familiar zipper fly that allows you to take your pants on and off, a second zipper extends from beneath the first zipper to the back of the waistband.
- Internal fabric shield – This is a custom flap on the interior of our bottoms made from 100% recycled polyester, has a soft handfeel, and is double layered to ensure comfort.
- External fabric flap – Made from the same fabric as the bottoms, it completely covers the GoFly Zipper, making it discreet and undetectable.
I tested out these shorts to determine how easily I could relieve myself–would I make a mess? Would I expose myself? The instructions mention that it’s the dealer’s choice to go commando. I tried with and without underwear and found things are less fumbly when you don’t have to pull your underwear to the side. Fortunately, the bonus zipper is separated from your skin by a smooth fabric flap, so if you choose to go commando, that extra zipper will not irritate. With or without underwear, the second zipper, which extends from just below the standard front zipper between your legs and up the backside, is not bulky. Visually, the second zipper disappears within the seam- you cannot see it.
Back to the pee part. Yes, the design works. I could keep myself dressed while peeing; it was all elegant and tidy. When I tried going commando, I could even relieve myself standing up! I’ve traveled extensively over the last ten years, and many places are too crowded to sneak behind a tree if you can find one…Last fall, my husband and I hiked along the Cinque Terre villages in Italy. Because we only had a day and wanted to see all the villages, we hiked the trail’s entire length, and there weren’t many hidden places to pee. For that day, the Go There Short would have been perfect. The other occasion when this short would be invaluable is while climbing. I pretty much held it for most of my climbing because I rarely felt safe slipping out of my harness. With these shorts, the problem was solved. I could see the pants version being valid for cross-country skiing, another occasion when dropping trou doesn’t always feel comfy.
The shorts are great for general use, even in places full of trees and without people. The fabric feels abrasion-resistant, has a durable water-repellent coating, and stretches in all directions. The pockets are generously sized, with multiple choices for where to stash your phone. The fit is flattering and compatible with a climbing harness. You have four colors for the shorts and nine for the pants. Belt loops are there if you like a belt, but there are waist ties if you’d rather not. These shorts are designed to last–consuming less is the best thing we can do for the environment. I want to add my thumbs up to all the other great reviews. This product is unique, functional, and fashionable.
