SM3 Saddles
Ergon had their new SM3 saddle line on display, and this innovative and feature laden product suite, felt and looked as though it will be comfortable and ergonomic. As we all know, we spend a good deal of time with our tush on a saddle, and a great deal of pressure gets applied to a rather sensitive area, and it must offer comfort and performance, and interact with varying body geometries. Ergon spent a considerable time and effort in many cross sports engineering disciplines, to come up with a highly ergonomic saddle, to maximize benefits and fitting.

The saddles are built with varying shells and rails, a friction minimizing silicon coating, a soft and breathable synthetic leather lorica micro-fibre cover, and an Alcantara rear panel. The saddle comes in three models, the SM3 Pro Carbon (Carbon Composite shell, Carbon Fiber rails), SM3 Pro (Carbon Composite shell, Tinox hollow rails) and SM3 (GFK shell, Tinox hollow rails), all of which will be available in small and large sizes, for different Coccyx (tailbone) widths. They should be available in Spring 2012, and I can’t wait to weight my derriere on one for a test ride.

SM3 Specs:

  • Ultra-thin, flex optimized carbon or GFK saddle shell with isolated rear mounting rails for added flex.
  • Innovative, multi-layered cushioning with progressive damping. Tuned damping correlates with saddle width use.
  • Nose mounted micro damper.
  • Saddle nose underside rubber cushion for shouldering the bike.
  • Chaff-reducing silicon coating on Pro and Carbon Pro models.
  • Optional standard rails, or MonolinkĀ® rail system (patent pending) allowing for maximum adjustment.
  • All SM3 saddles are designed and engineered in Germany and manufactured by hand by Selle Italia in Italy.

BX3 and BX1 Packs
Ergon had the new BX3 and BX1 hydration packs on display, and they should continue with the same features, functions and ergonomics of the previously released 8 liter BX2. The 14 liter capacity BX3, has an adjustable back system, floating shoulder straps, conformable frame, and should be comfortable and well ventilated pack, and make for a stable, connected, and synergistic package. I am looking forward to trying out the BX3, since I always found that the BX2 was a tad small in volume for my Colorado mountain forays.

BX3 Specs:

  • Ergon’s mid sized Mountain Bike pack.
  • Adaptive Carrier System holds the load close to the body, and stable.
  • Self correcting shoulder straps available
  • 4 position back adjustment
  • Main compartments, bladder compartment, rain cover, hip belt pockets and organization compartments.
  • Material – Nylon, Polyester, water resistant zippers.
  • Capacity – 14 litres, expandable to 16 liters (hence the 14+2 designation)
  • Sizes – Regular, Large

The smaller BX1 forgoes the adjustable back system, for lighter weight and a decreased volume.

BX1 Specs:

  • Extra lightweight Mountain Bike pack.
  • Adaptive Carrier System based load compression – the load is kept close to the user and stable.
  • Self correcting shoulder straps
  • Front compartment and a further organization compartment.
  • Material – Super light, rip-stop nylon, water resistant zippers.
  • Capacity – 7 liters
  • Sizes – Regular, Large

GA1 Evo Grips
The new All Mountain GA1 Evo grips replace the GA1 grips, and come in only one size, which is slightly thinner than its predecessor. It retains the softer rubber of the GA1 Leichtbau model, and comes in a variety of colors, including Green, Red, Black, Blue and White.

Misc New Items
Ergon had some other new items, including the PC2 Evo, which is an ergonomic flat touring pedal, that should aid in maximizing efficiency, and the tweaked HE2, which has been optimized for Freeride and All Mountain riding.
