Gravity Components GRID bars, stem and grips

Gravity Components has been the downhill, freeride and dirt jumping product suite for Full Speed Ahead (FSA) for over nine years and has always prided themselves on making durable, maintainable and affordable gear. Gravity recently released a very affordable Trail and Enduro component group named GRID, which includes handlebars, stems, seatposts, cranks and a unique chainguard. The new GRID group utilizes a lightweight aluminum alloy that is strong and has an excellent price point due to the cost effectiveness of utilizing an alloy for the material basis. Gravity was kind enough to send along a set of their grips and the new GRID bars and stem for some testing and reviewing.

Gravity Components GRID stem

Grid Stem

The stem is 3D forged and CNC machined and has a ‘No Gap’ 4 bolt 6061 aluminum faceplate. It comes in 35mm and 50mm lengths with a 6-degree rise and a 35mm handlebar clamp size. The 35mm size weighs in at 135 grams and retail for $69.

First Impressions

I tested the 50mm version of the stem, which is perfect for the geometry I like on my bike. The installation was dead simple, and the no gap at the top of the faceplate made tightening an easy task. The stem itself was monstrously stiff, and I could discern no flex. I liked the way the stem looked and the simple graphics and interesting lines made for a complete package.

Measured Specs: 168 grams

Gravity Components GRID bars - installed

Grid Handlebars

The bars use a double butted and tapered 6061/T6 aluminum construction. They come in 760mm and 800mm widths with a 20mm rise and 8-degree backsweep and 5-degree upsweep with a 35mm bar diameter. The 760mm weighs 305 grams and retail for $59.

First Impressions

I tested the uber wide 800mm bars, which gave me lots of leverage and turning quality, but obviously made it tighter in the trees. I set the bars up dead center in the stem, and the sweep felt just about perfect. The alloy bars were extremely stiff, yet they had some decent damping qualities and I didn’t notice any fatigue issue even after a long ride.
