Black, Indigenous, and Immigrant Americans have faced cultural and institutional barriers to participation in outdoor recreation. Despite making up 40% of the country, they represent less than 15% of public land users. In addition to making delicious and authentic meals for everyone, they donate a portion of every meal sold to fueling BIPOC adventurers.

Good Detour

Good Detour feeds nourishing vegetarian food inspired by South Asian flavors to all outdoorsy taste hounds.

Good Detour makes the great outdoors accessible and enjoyable for all, regardless of dietary preferences or cultural backgrounds. Its founders, who have roots in the Indian diaspora, have experienced firsthand the challenge of finding suitable meals during outdoor adventures. This led them to create a solution that caters not only to South Asians but also to vegetarians, vegans, and anyone looking for a delicious alternative to typical outdoor fare.

Their journey began with personal experiences of feeling left out due to the lack of appropriate food options on camping trips and family excursions. Inspired by these challenges, they turned to their heritage—drawing on the rich flavors and traditional recipes handed down through generations. Their meals are crafted to offer nourishment and comfort, combining the authenticity of home-cooked South Asian food with the practical needs of outdoor enthusiasts.

COBA

COBA reimagines our daily coffee and tea rituals into an easy, tasty experience on the go.

Coffee and tea are thousands of years old traditions. While they, too, enjoy the ritual of pulling a shot or foaming up milk for a latte, they wanted to create a new way to enjoy the delicious flavors of our favorite beverages—and the energy they give us.

On a two-month trip to South America, they immersed themselves in the trade, learning everything they could about what makes quality coffee. They also saw how climate change has affected the growers’ livelihoods there. They realized that the first part of creating a great coffee bar was ensuring we did right by the people at the beginning of the supply chain.

COBA Brew

Make a rich, deep, smooth cup of coffee in 3 seconds with COBA’s Coffee Concentrate. With their fair trade, organic coffee, you can have 15 Cups of coffee. It comes in Original, Vanilla, and Mint flavors.

I liked the Vanilla mixed with some Oat milk and sweetener.

COBA Bars

Their tea-flavored bars are made with natural ingredients. They come in four flavors: Espresso Bar, Chai Latte Bar, Matcha Latte Bar, and Hojicha Latte Bar.

A COBA bar is a perfectly dosed hit of caffeine that doesn’t make you jittery. It’s also convenient and has less impact on the environment than disposable cups. Bite into one wherever you need a little boost to enjoy your day.

My favorite bar was the Matcha Latte Bar. Yummy!

Colorado Freeze-Dried Candy by Mile-Hi Sweets and Treats

Mile-Hi Sweets and Treats freeze-dried candies are your favorite regular everyday candies that have undergone a transformative process, expanding them with a light and fluffy texture. The freeze-drying process intensifies the flavors. They are also much easier to eat for people with braces, dentures, etc. The machines that make the candy utilize a vacuum pump to help extract the water from the candy, causing it to puff up.

I tried their fluffy worms and Sour Taffy Clouds, which had an interesting texture and taste. Their candy types include Sweet, Sour, Spicy, Chocolate, Gummy, nutty, and Taffy. They’d be perfect for mountain bike rides, hikes, and bikepack trips.

Mile-Hi Sweets and Treats prides itself on providing a wide variety of different candies that are all “Fun and Fluffy.” They want you to have a fun and exciting experience every time you open a bag of their candy, so they only offer the best of the best.
