On their Instagram account, Shimano has a couple of short teaser videos regarding something being released tomorrow 25.05.2018.  They have three clips that show out of focus and backlit pictures of a cassette, crankset, and a rear derailleur, along with some interesting quotes:

  • Psst… come closer and we’ll show you a secret.
  • Something pretty damn awesome is about to come…
  • Second to none.

Last year at Eurobike there was some rumors of a 12-speed system, and supposedly a rider at the Czech round of the XC World Cup was utilizing what appeared to be a 12-speed XTR drivetrain.

Rumor info:

  • Two cassette versions: 10-45T (10-12-14-16-18-21-24-28-32-36-40-45) and 10-51T (10-12-14-16-18-21-24-28-33-39-45-51)
  • Direct mount chainrings
  • New freehub body design
  • Shimano XTR 12-speed will be a 1x and named M9100

We’ll find out tomorrow brings, but until then it’s all conjecture. But we’d love to see a 12-speed system from Shimano!
