Outdoor Research has a new, proprietary “active insulation” for more aerobic situations called VerticalX Air, which offers better warmth and —simultaneously — better breathability. Some of the VerticalX Air products include the Refuge Air Hooded Jacket and Vigor Hybrid Hooded Jacket. They’re expanding their Aerogel collection with the Inception Aerogel Gloves, the Tundra Aerogel Booties, and the Tundra Aerogel Balaclava.

Moisture management and breathability in a puffy jacket take yet another step forward with the Refuge Air Hooded Jacket, which uses innovative new insulation — VerticalX Air — paired with a thermo-regulating interior treatment that helps Manage warmth levels more efficiently. VerticalX Air, a proprietary Outdoor Research insulation technology, offers a better warmth-to-weight ratio, more effective breathability in active situations, and better loft retention over time. In the Refuge Air, it’s paired with ActiveTemp, a thermo-regulating treatment on the interior lining that dynamically regulates the internal microclimate and boosts comfort. ActiveTemp helps keep the wearer warm when they’re at rest and cool and comfortable when they’re on the move on the move. On the exterior, Pertex Quantum Air fabric provides the weather protection of a softshell.

Vigor Hybrid Hooded Jacket
Built for the full range of cold-weather aerobic activities, the Vigor Hybrid Hooded Jacket pairs VerticalX Air insulation, a high-performing, proprietary Outdoor Research insulation technology, on the front of the jacket with a super-stretchy polyester/spandex grid fleece on the back, sleeves and hood. The result is one of the most versatile mid-layers on the planet. Aerogel Collection
Featuring Primaloft Gold Insulation Aerogel. They’re expanding their Aerogel collection with the Inception Aerogel Gloves, as well as the Tundra Aerogel Booties and the Tundra Aerogel Balaclava. Aerogel is 98% air and is encapsulated within a special plastic membrane since the material would otherwise break down. Aerogel is used in the palm and fingertips for gloves to insulate you from the snow and holding metal objects (such as ice tool, and on the soles for the booties.
