Features
The Crosspoint Gloves features a three bonded layer design, utilizing a tough wear-resistant knit exterior, a seamless waterproof breathable Artex membrane middle layer, and a Coolmax FX moisture-wicking antibacterial knit baselining for odor control and comfort. The palms and interior thumb and fingers feature sticky integrated silicone imprint patterns that are shaped like little rectangles and provide enhanced grip and braking, which is essential in wet conditions.
Impressions
The gloves are extremely useful in rainstorms, snowstorms, hailstorms, and anytime you get caught out in inclement weather. The comfortable and stretchy gloves are easy to slip on and were tight enough not to feel sloppy but weren’t constricting or binding. With the three-layer design and thickness of each of them, they aren’t a thin modern All-Mountain glove, so there is a slight loss of dexterity and tactile feel, but naturally, they gain waterproofness and warmth. They’re lightweight and have a minimalist design without any velcro cuffs, panels or redundant features.
The Silicone print on the palm and fingers and thumbs are quite sticky, and the number of small rectangles occurs throughout key locations providing a better adhesion in wet, slick and snowy conditions, so your hands don’t slip on the grips, handlebars and brake levers.
Although I only wear the gloves intermittently in less than ideal weather conditions, they haven’t shown any signs of excess wear, snagged on the outer knit material and abraded through the silicon imprint. So far doing trail maintenance and hitting scrub oak, bushes and trees haven’t done any damage, and they have more than durable enough for my usual abuse.
I tended to put the gloves on when an ugly hail storm comes rolling in and during prolonged rainstorms, and I needed the extra warmth and waterproofness. Once the inclement weather stopped, I’d take them back off and put them in my pack. When the weather got cold enough for warmer gloves and mittens, the Crosspoint would become a lighter backup item, since they were out of their range for those temperatures below freezing conditions.
I still recall a vicious hail and snow storm during the summer where the temperature dropped substantially, and everything started to get drenched. It was so wonderful to toss the Crosspoint gloves on and have warm and dry hands, almost like you got to sit in front of a fireplace with a cup of cocoa. I quickly get cold hands, and the ability to keep my fingers warm, dry and toasty is paramount to the enjoyable riding experience. The extended cuff comes up just enough to go underneath a jacket, and the cuff is snug enough not to let errant water creep in, though it doesn’t provide a waterproof seal.
During exceptionally prolonged periods of getting drenched in wet weather the outer knit layer held the water and got wet, and even though your hands stayed dry, the external dampness caused a chilling factor to morph its way inward, and although it was a rare occurrence, it wasn’t enjoyable.
Although I primarily tested the gloves while mountain biking, they can be used for hiking, backpacking, running, camping and household chores and pretty much anywhere you need to keep your hands and fingers warm and dry.
Bottom Line
The Crosspoint Knit Waterproof gloves are super comfortable, lightweight, stretchy, waterproof and have a sticky Silicone imprint to adhere to grips, handlebars, and shift, brake, and dropper post levers. The excellent and highly functional gloves were handy to toss into my pack, and I loved knowing I could put them on during inclement wet weather and have warm and dry hands.
