The Sunset Chair is durable and well-built and has lasted me a long time without any wear and tear issues during multiple camp trips, picnics, outdoor concerts, backyard activities, and just plain general hanging out.

The Sunset chair has a 5-year warranty and is available in nine colors for $169.95.

The High-Back Seat Warmer is a puffy for your chair. It provides soft warmth, extra cushioning, and draft protection for cold outdoor adventures. It is available in versions for Chair Two, Sunset/Beach Chair, or Savannah/Playa Chair and comes in five color options for $59.95 to $79.95.

Features

The Sunset Chair’s frame is engineered using DAC’s advanced alloy TH72M, which provides maximum strength and minimum weight. The technology was initially developed for poles on high-end expedition tents. Aluminum alloy components need to be anodized to protect against corrosion and preserve appearance, but the traditional methods utilize nasty nitric & phosphoric acids for the anodization process. DAC developed a Green Anodising system that uses a water recycling program in the facility to help reduce environmental impacts, giving the alloy sections a protective and durable finish. An elastic shock cord links the frame sections together and helps them self-locate into the high-strength nylon hubs, offering easy setup. The seat is constructed in high-grade fabrics, with rugged reinforcing panels and durable stitching for improved durability.

Setup

The chair is simple to erect; take the seat out of the stuff sack and unroll the seat and frame. Next, let the elastic cords pop each frame section into place and insert everything together. Lastly, insert the upper frame sections into the top of the seat slots and the bottom sections into the lower seat slots. It did seem a bit easier to get the lower insertion down with the chair lying down, which provided a slight amount of flex from the frame.

The puffy acts like a top quilt. Place it over the chair, and pull all the outer corners over the top (just like doing the sheets on a bed.)

Once the chair is broken down, the frame can be rolled up in the seat, and everything easily fits into the stuff sack. At 3.25 lbs, the chair is compact and decently light, though it’s more suited to car camping.

Impressions

Sunset Chair

The sitting height of the chair is about perfect and places you somewhere between the designs that sit you too close to the ground and the standard fold-up camp chairs. The closer-to-the-ground designs are intricate to stand back up from, and my knees appreciated not having to roll myself off the ground. The height is also beneficial for pulling up to a table or platform for advantageous eating instead of tossing everything onto your lap or the ground. However, pouting a drinking cup/bottle/mug on the ground is still close enough.

The chair’s high back lets you lean your head back and comfortably relax, making it a soothing way to hang out, whether it’s the end of a prolonged physical activity day or just vegging. The open mesh vents on the side and back provide additional breathability during warmer weather, so you don’t overheat sitting in the chair. I also found the polyester material was comfortable, didn’t get overly hot in the sun, and didn’t feel sticky.

The chair’s tiny feet tend to sink on soft ground, such as gravel, sand, or damp dirt, but if you use small tennis balls, you won’t have an issue. Helinox sells some accessory ball feet that perform the same functionality.

High-Back Seat Warmer

The High-Back Seat Warmer quilt/puffy cover is part of Helinox’s Warmth Collection of seat warmers and is perfect for winter camping, sitting around post-skiing, and at a chilly campsite. The puffy chair and its high back are designed for cozying up and gazing at the stars when the temperature drops. With cold-weather camping in mind, this seat warmer provides soft warmth, extra cushioning, and draft protection for cold outdoor adventures.

Bottom Line

The chair is compact and easy to erect and tear down, so tossing it into the back of your vehicle for camping or post-ride Hangouts makes it ideal. The chair’s height off the ground was perfect for my old knees, making it easy to get in and out of the chair. The high back and dish of the seat made it extremely comfortable, with just enough upward tilt at the front of the chair for my legs to bend comfortably.

I found the new High-Back Seat Warmer offered respite when hanging at a chilly campsite. Its additional padding provides comfort and plushness while seated.
