Last year, Boot Bananas launched their Eco-Travel Deodorizers. These shoe deodorizers are a sustainable, lightweight, and earth-friendly way to keep well-worn footwear smelling fresh by fighting the funk. The banana-shaped, fragrance-free deodorizers easily slide into any pair of shoes to neutralize odors and absorb moisture. They are also easily transportable, fitting in shoes, gloves, bags, lockers, cars, etc.

Boot Bananas last up to 12 months. They are made from activated coconut charcoal, the sole ingredient so that they can be easily recycled. The entire banana is home-compostable (yes, really, the whole thing) and uses Oeko-Tex certified dyes and inks.

Impressions 

I have been using the Original Shoe Deodorisers and Active Mineral Moisture Absorbers for a long time, and they have been very functional. They have kept my biking and hiking shoes dry and odor-free, offering additional longevity (bacteria breaks down shoes.) The newer Eco-Travel Deodorizers provide the same superb functionality in sustainable, fragrance-free deodorizing inserts made from simple activated charcoal. The entire banana is home-compostable and uses certified dyes and inks. When the Boot Bananas need to be dried, stick them in a sunny window to return them to whole life. They helped fight the funk, and my bike shoes never got overly stinky. Although they aren’t supposed to be used in wet shoes, they did help dry my bike shoes, which had gotten damp from rain and snow. Once they get old or used up, the Boot Bananas will take on the worn down and subtle brown tones indicating their end-of-life, though, after a year, they still seem fine.

• Ripeness Indicator – These Boot Bananas may gradually discolor or ‘ripen’ with time as the natural fiber fabric banana ‘skins’ break down. Replace when they stop preventing odor. Approximately 12 months, depending on use.
