Bivy, the app that ignited countless adventures and helped people find, track, and share their outdoor adventures, announces that their Bivystick, a 2-way satellite communication device, has begun shipping following a successful Kickstarter campaign. Bivystick works conveniently with users’ existing smartphones and offers all of the benefits of a GPS unit and satellite 2-way communicator to send SMS messages, track and share location information, access GPS maps, get up to date weather forecasts, and notify EMS in the event of an emergency.

“I created Bivy (app) to get people into the outdoors, and Bivystick is another tool to help people access the backcountry while being able to stay in communication,” said Bivy founder Vance Cook. “With Bivystick, I wanted to give adventurers of all backgrounds a convenient and easy way to stay in touch when they were out of cell service range. Getting into the outdoors is good for the mind and soul, and I’m beyond excited to be able to begin delivering Bivystick to adventurers.”

Bivystick will seamlessly link to users’ smartphone wirelessly via Bluetooth or an included cable and will have ample battery capacity to run the device and (re)charge the users’ smartphone freeing the user from an additional device and able to focus on an entire weekend of adventuring.

Bivy strove to create a convenient, easy to understand and use a data plan with no annual contracts, no activation fees, and the ability to cancel any time. Users simply identify and customize a credit-based data plan to meet their adventure style; with a monthly Base Plan starting at $17.99 that includes:

  • 30-day connection to a satellite network
  • 10 credits
  • SOS monitoring
  • Dedicated phone number
  • Unused credit roll-over when a monthly plan is continued
  • Bivystick continues working after all credits are used at a rate of $.50ea

Users simply turn on the Bivystick when they need it and turn it off when they don’t. Bivy’s credit-based data plans are designed to be flexible and meet the needs of both the super hardcore and the casual weekend warrior with one credit equating to one use (text message, location share, weather report, or hour of tracking). Additional credit packs are available and range from $9 for 20 credits, $20 for 50 credits, and $35 for 100 credits.

“Bivystick makes a great gift for the adventurer in your life,” said Bivy Marketing Director Pitt Grewe. “You can gift the convenience of backcountry communication to your loved one without saddling them with an expensive annual data contract and enjoy peace of mind knowing that they’re enjoying the outdoors while still being accessible.”
