Effetto Mariposa’s latest butterfly effect model is the Tyreinvader which offers all the pros of tire inserts without the cons. It’s a little, entombed change that will produce big results in the form of a tire insert. Tyreinvader differentiates itself from all others on the market with premium materials that provide exclusive advantages.

Tyreinvader is a tire insert made from high-density EVA and offers anti-pinch-flat characteristics. It comes in four widths which can be fit 26″, 27.5″ and 29″ sizes, is lightweight at 50-90g, won’t absorb sealant, is easy to mount, and protects your tires and rims from impacts. Alberto De Gioannini, the owner of Effetto Mariposa, has released another innovative and interesting product.

Popular in some markets but absent in others, tire inserts are newest in category focused on reducing or, ultimately. eliminating flats. Given Effetto Mariposa’s expertise with their groundbreaking ammonia-free Caffe Latex sealant, Espresso Doppio sealant + inflator and other niche tire accessories, it is only fitting that a tire insert follow. Effetto Mariposa’s Tyreinvader, however, differentiates itself from competitors in more ways than one.

Tyreinvader is made of high-density EVA, a durable, light material utilized in the sports shoe industry with high shock absorption features. Because it is flat, it comes into play only when needed and takes up less space inside the tire. Other round or spongy inserts are often compressed during normal riding or take up excessive space inside the tire thereby reducing air volume and radically changing the ride feel.

The closed-cell structure of the EVA also means that it will not absorb any sealant. Effetto Mariposa still recommends adding an additional 30 ml of sealant per tire to compensate for the fact that the insert surface will be wet with sealant thus decreasing the standard flow of sealant throughout the tire.

Effetto Mariposa’s Tyreinvader tire insert is 50% lighter (and nearly 75% lighter for as width increase) than others in the category. The average tire insert starts at 100 grams and can weigh as much as 250 grams per wheel. While weight matters less for gravity or ebikes, a heavier wheel is harder to pedal and will always slow handling – no matter what discipline. Some competitors suggest using a lighter tire to compensate for the weight increase, but that, in turn, increases the likelihood of slicing a thinner sidewall. Tyreinvader, with its alien-like (think Space Invaders!) cut-outs, starts at 50 grams for the narrowest 29” and maxes out at 90 grams for the widest, Plus-ready wheels for a minimum of 50% weight savings no matter what the wheel width (weight for Tyreinvaders is based on an uncut EVA strip for 29” wheels; thus weight is even less when adapted to 27.5” or 26” wheels.)

Tyreinvader is available in four different widths, 40, 50, 55, and 60, covering Gravel to Plus applications. While some tire inserts are notoriously difficult to amount, Effetto Mariposa’s Tyreinvader likens the process to mount a stubborn tubeless tire. Simply mount the Tyreinvader inside the tire, add sealant, and go ride. And unlike most round tire inserts that sit on the base of the tubeless valve once mounted (thereby requiring special often heavier tubeless values), Effetto Mariposa’s flat Tyreinvader requires no special tubeless valves. Because Tyreinvader sits tightly on the rim by design, in case of emergency it can be ridden in flat mode.

Made in Italy, Tyreinvader’s suggested retail pricing starts at $49.99 for Tyreinvader 40 and includes two pieces that can be used for diameters of 29”, 27.5 or 26” tires. Additional MSRPs: Tyreinvader 50 $69.99; Tyreinvader 55 $84.99; Tyreinvader 60 $94.99. Available in January of 2019.
